Improve your tango, whether as a beginner or a professional dancer, with a body as strong and flexible as possible. These classes are designed specifically to focus on the aspects of conditioning that will help with

  • foot and ankle strength and stability

  • hip alignment and core strength to ground you and help maintain your axis

  • shoulder stability to give you a flexible and stable embrace

  • spinal rotation to enhance dissasociation for steps like sacadas and giros

  • hip flexor and hamstring length and strength for step projection and to improve ganchos and boleos.

(and for experienced dancers ‘revisiting’ the fundamentals):

•        further development of the tango walk
•        leading and following in more complex figures
•        dancing to vals and milonga and the various tango rhythms
•        firuletes for followers and leaders to add ‘spice’ to their dance
•        further milonguero vocabulary and techniques for crowded dance floors.

In 20 years of dancing in Buenos Aires, Europe and Asia, we have observed, learned from and danced with the best Argentinian teachers and performers. They dance in a very different way in milongas - especially in Buenos Aires.

Like the Buenos Aires milongueros, they dance in an intimate embrace, totally engaged with their partner. Their sole aim is to express the richness of the great tango pieces as played by the great orquestas. They use tango figures in a deeply musical, ‘less is more’ fashion – so that they are free to fully and mutually experience all the moods and rhythms of this wonderful music.

The aim of our classes is to guide new and experienced dancers to this level of experience.

Level 1 - Intro to Tango - for Beginners

Tango for complete Beginners to Tango - Requires no prior dance experience - two 10 week course which covers Fundamentals of close embrace, walk, ochos, parallel & cross systems.

Extra class rate: prepaid students of 5 week courses are entitled to attend additional class/es (same or lower level) in the same week for only $10 per class at Bondi Beach venue. 

Course rate $100 for five weeks. Casual rates are $25 per class or $10 if attended as an extra class. *Special 50% discount rate for new students for first 5 week course - 2 for the price of 1 !!

Patio de Tango Levels Guide:
Level 1 -10 weeks - Intro to Tango/Beginners- those who have never tried tango or want to refresh skill

Level 2- 30 weeks - Intermediate - those who have completed Level 1 at Patio de Tango or the equivalent

For those who have completed the Beginner Course or who are coming to the studio with some basic tango knowledge. You should already have basic understanding in theory and practice of:
• the importance of maintaining your own axis and how to do so.
• the dynamics that create the embrace and how it allows connection between partners.
•.the need for spacial awareness when dancing.
• the use of the lat dorsi (dorsals) to guide the free leg.
• basic pivot technique, the use of the ball of the foot and how hip stability and breathing effect balance.

Patio de Tango Level 2 - Prerequisite for entry is completion of Level 1 (10 week course) or equivalent.

Level 2 (Intermediate) – 10 weeks course x 3 (30 weeks)

Covers Giros & Crosses, Ochos forward & back, Double time, Sandwich, Ocho Cortado, Barridas, Paradas, Sacadas, Rebotes, Boleos – each 10 week course has a different and distinct theme.

Milonga Lisa & Vals workshops are run in term breaks.

Each week we offer duplicate classes for Level 2, so you can make up a missed class.

Absolute Beginner Course 8.30-9.30pm with Sydney Tango House

Start feeling the joy of Argentine Tango with Refik and Emily-Rose of Sydney Tango House. We start with learning the basics of connection and moving together to start you on your tango journey.
Our Absolute beginners course goes for 4 weeks and is for those with little or no previous knowledge of dancing Argentine Tango. Our courses work in sets of 4 week booking and payments. This group will continue 1 hr each week (with practica time available afterwards if you want to stay) until the next month where you ‘Level Up’ to continue with the same group at the same time. Book ahead of time so we can balance numbers. Also please note it is not a drop in class but if you miss out – a new absolute beginners course will start the following month or you can discuss with us a private session or 2 to catch up.
Booking into a course at Sydney Tango House also gives you lots of perks! Our students get discounts on using the space for practice (practica) and discounts on all our workshops that happen every weekend.
